Menopause Mandate: Shocking Gaps in Women's Healthcare

After reading the latest research from the Menopause Mandate, I was alarmed by the staggering data they revealed. Surveying around 20,000 women across the UK and US, the report highlights a concerning truth: women's healthcare, especially around menopause, is still being neglected.

The statistics are startling. Despite women making up almost half of the global population ( global population - men 50.4% -  women 49.6%), the fact that their healthcare needs, particularly during menopause, are still not taken seriously by politicians and some healthcare professionals is shocking. A staggering 96% of women reported that menopause symptoms negatively impact their quality of life, yet little has been done to shift public attitudes or provide adequate support in workplaces and communities.

While menopause is often dismissed as "just natural" or something women can simply endure, this outdated mindset is failing millions. Social media conversations around menopause have increased, but I question how much real change has occurred in improving women's day-to-day lives.

If quality of life (QoL) measures the overall well-being of a population, it's clear that women, almost half of the population, are suffering. Their QoL is being impacted on multiple levels, from mental health to personal relationships. For example, 82% of women report experiencing brain fog, a serious issue that The M Factor documentary highlights as more than a minor symptom. Dr. Mosconi explains that brain fog isn't even officially defined in medical terms, leaving women fearful they may be facing early dementia.

Similarly, 72% of women struggle with low mood during menopause, yet 47% of them are simply prescribed antidepressants, rather than receiving proper menopause care. This quick-fix approach is not addressing the root cause.

It’s clear that awareness isn’t enough. We need urgent action, more research, more funding, and a serious commitment from governments to prioritise women’s health, especially around menopause. Without this, the quality of life for millions of women will continue to suffer.
